One March in the mid-90’s I traveled to Hopkinsville, KY with several members of my ASFG study group to attend the Edgar Cayce Homecoming Seminar. As we were preparing for the trip my friends (who were vegetarian) informed me that they were taking food to prepare and eat. At that time – and especially in rural KY, the vegetarian options in most restaurants were salad and baked potatoes. They invited me to share their food but also offered to stop and let me get a hamburger or whatever else I wanted. I said that I would eat with them which I did for the weekend.
When I arrived back home after the weekend I realized that the almost constant indigestion and heartburn I had was gone. Hmm, wonder if eliminating meat had something to do with it? In the spirit of wait and see what develops I decided to avoid meat, telling myself that if I wanted to eat it I would but if I didn’t I would continue the vegetarian diet.
A few weeks later, I had a dream. In the dream a woman was standing in front of me – in one hand she had a fried chicken breast which she gave me. I took a bite but realized immediately that I didn’t want it. In her other hand was a pork chop. She offered that too but I gave her the chicken breast back (with a bite taken out of it!) and turning away said “No thanks, I don’t need it.”
Since that time, 30 years ago now, I’ve followed a semi-vegetarian diet (fish and seafood are also part of my food choices.) I almost never have indigestion and though I didn’t lose a lot of weight like I had hoped, (Darn it!) I do generally feel well and am thankful for the blessing of good health. These days there are a lot more options for non-meat eaters which I’m also thankful for.
Would I have continued on my path without the guidance from my dream? Maybe… but after receiving the message of the dream I truly felt that my inner voice, or intuition, or even the Universe – whatever we want to call it, was speaking directly to me. And for that I am grateful.
